For Jennifer Lopez the recent Boston bombing events could potentially become a successful and “interesting” cinematographic experience, just as it happened with her “Selena” biopic a couple of years ago. There is a catch, though: it has to be done in the right way.
In an interview with CBS’ "Entertainment Tonight," about her role as a producer for the new TV show, “The Fosters,” the actress and singer also answered questions on possible movie opportunities based on the Massachusetts tragedy.
“They're delicate subjects because there is so much emotion that surrounds them. It has to be done in the right way, just like anything else. At the end of the day it's such a tragic thing and so unthinkable," Lopez said to ET. "You would think it would make for a great movie, but at the end of the day it has to be handled in a certain way to be great."
Some have criticized the comments, arguing it is too soon to start thinking about how Hollywood could potentially monetize on the tragic events. However, the star explained she doesn't find any problems on doing so if it is handled with respect and sensibility just at it happened with her movie “Selena”, based on the tragic death of Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla.
"When I did the movie ‘Selena’, we did it two years after she passed away. A year after [she passed away] I was being cast for the movie. And it was such a tragedy for her family and for the music community. I don't know. It's something you have to just feel out. Something you have to wait and see," she said during her interview.
Released on May 1997, “Selena” was Lopez’s first movie hit, and one of her most important platforms to reach international fame later on. The actress is currently also promoting her new TV show, ABC's “The Fosters,” expected to premiere on June 3rd, of which she is an executive producer, as an homage to her late lesbian aunt.
