Diane Sawyer Secures Malala Yousafzai Exclusive Interview

Diane Sawyer secured an exclusive interview with Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot by the Taliban in October 2012 for advocating for girls' education.

The network announced on Wednesday that the special, which will be Yousafzai's first U.S. interview, will air in October 2013 in conjunction with a BBC interview by Mishal Husain. The dates coincide with the publication of Yousafzai's book I am Malala, which marks the one-year anniversary of the shooting.

Earlier this month, Yousafzai was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people of the year. She was also on one of the seven special edition covers released by the magazine.

ABC News' announcement comes one day after the network aired Sawyer's exclusive interview with Amanda Knox.
