Cicely Tyson’s much-anticipated return to Broadway in the revival of Horton Foote's "The Trip to Bountiful" has garnered a tremendous amount of acclaim within the theater community.

Alongside her co-stars Cuba Gooding, Jr., Vanessa Williams, and Condola Rashad, this week the Academy Award nominee and three-time Emmy Award-winner reached another career milestone as she received her first Tony Award nomination for “Best Actress in a Play.” Tyson's nod was a mere addition, rounding out the production’s prestigious four nominations, including Best Featured Actress in a Play by Condola Rashad, Best Revival of a Play and Best Sound Design of a Play.

In addition to Tyson’s recognition for her first Broadway performance in over 30 years, NBA champion, New York Knicks All-Star center, and “Bountiful” producer, Tyson Chandler also made history as he became the first NBA player to net a Tony nod.

Originally based off the 1953 teleplay, Foote’s production went on to evolve into the 1985 motion picture of the same name, which resulted in an Academy Award for actress Geraldine Page.

The 2013 Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on CBS June 9th at 8:00 ET/PT.
