One of our favorite journalism stories took another turn on Friday.

The Chicago Tribune recently sent the Boston Globe dozens of pizzas to express its gratitude for its "tenacious coverage" of the Boston Marathon bombings. Romenesko reported that the Boston Globe returned the favor on Friday, sending hundreds of donuts to the Chicago Tribune.

The donuts came with a letter from Boston Globe thanking the Chicago newsroom for "the gesture of journalistic cameraderie." Click over to Romenesko to read the letter.

The journalists at the Globe endured a draining week covering the bombings, and the paper became a source of vital information for readers everywhere. It pulled down its website paywall on the Monday of the bombings, and drew 1.2 million unique visitors that day. Globe editor Brian McGrory told The Huffington Post that the paper’s marathon coverage showed why “metro papers matter.”

The newspaper received a shoutout from President Obama, who zinged other media outlets, during the White House Correspondents' Dinner. "If anyone wonders if newspapers are a thing of the past, all you need to do is pick up or log on to papers like the Boston Globe," he praised.
