Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has an early edge over former DNC chair Terry McAuliffe in Virginia's 2013 gubernatorial race, according to a Washington Post poll released Saturday.
Cuccinelli, a Republican, leads McAuliffe 46 to 41 percent among all Virginia voters. Cuccinelli's lead grows to 51 percent among likely voters, with 41 percent saying they'd vote for McAuliffe.
However, the poll also found very little interest in the race, with just 10 percent of respondents saying they have been following the campaign "very closely" six months ahead of Election Day.
According to the Post poll, Cuccinelli's early edge is bolstered by his strong support from the GOP base. 95 percent of all Republicans and 73 percent of conservatives said they were supporting the attorney general, while McAuliffe is underperforming among some critical constituencies, including young voters and African Americans.
The poll, which was conducted over the phone from April 29 to May 2, surveyed 1,000 Virginia adults, including 887 registered voters.
HuffPost Pollster's chart, which tracks all publicly available polls, currently shows Cuccinelli with a slight edge over McAuliffe.
