How do you separate myths from reality when it comes to addiction? Addiction specialist and CEO of Change Inc. Brad Lamm shared the top myths in recovering from an addiction when he joined me on this episode of Mondays With Marlo.
First, people don't have to want to change for an intervention to work. There's often an outside factor -- losing your job, trouble with a spouse -- that will force someone to take action. Having an intervention doesn't mean that you will make things worse for your loved one. If you do intervene in a loving, thoughtful way, you will usually improve the situation. And finally, hitting rock bottom isn't necessary before someone changes his or her behavior. Hitting rock bottom just means there's nowhere lower to go. You can be the person who helps your loved one get out of that hole.
