Anderson Cooper Victim Of 'Swatting' Hoax

Anderson Cooper recently fell victim to "celebrity swatting" when a fake 911 call sent police to his Long Island home.

The New York Post reported Tuesday that police descended on Cooper's home in Quiogue, Long Island last month, after a 911 call claimed that a man had shot his wife in the house. Cops realized it was a prank when they arrived.

Cooper — who was not home at the time — is not the first CNN host to fall victim to "swatting," in which pranksters send fake urgent messages to authorities. Just last week, police received a message saying that someone had been shot at Wolf Blitzer's home in Bethesda, Maryland. The message turned out to be fake.

The two are among a growing group of celebrities who have been hit by the hoax in recent months. Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Ashton Kutcher, Russell Brand, Ryan Seacrest, Tom Cruise, Selena Gomez, Rihanna and Chris Brown have all been victims of swatting.
