Back in 2002, Oprah walked into a kindergarten class taught by the beloved Mrs. Faruta -- and surprised her with a day off. While the teacher was to spend the day at a spa being pampered, "Miss Winfrey" would assume her duties in the classroom, taking over as the kindergarten teacher for the day. Could the high-powered talk-show host handle a group of adorable 5-year-olds?
This clip from a recent episode of "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" revisits the talk-show host's one-day career as a kindergarten teacher. First order of business: introductions. "Hi, everybody!" Oprah said to her new classroom. "My name is Miss Winfrey. I've never taught kindergarten before..."
Immediately, one child began to cry. "Why are you crying, Juliana?" Oprah asked, walking over to the little girl and crouching to her level. "Why, honey?"
"I want my mommy," the child said through tears.
"She wants her mommy," Oprah repeated to the camera. "Juliana doesn't think it's going to be fun."
As the video shows, the day got more chaotic from there -- a fact that Oprah had no trouble sensing. "Somewhere between reading time and lunchtime, I kind of lost my grip on Mrs. Faruta's kindergarten class," she admitted.
After the school day came to an end, Oprah realized that perhaps a career as a kindergarten teacher wasn't in the cards for her. "This is a LOT of work," she said. "I'm going to keep my day job."
