Anachronistic Music In Movies & TV: From 'Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid' To 'The Great Gatsby'

Thank goodness for Baz Luhrmann. Without him, anachronistic music selections in this year's movies would be relegated to movie trailers. To wit: the marketing campaigns for 2013 releases "42" and "Gangster Squad" made prominent use of Jay-Z songs, but neither movie actually featured those Jay-Z songs.

Luhrmann's latest, "The Great Gatsby," makes no such false promises. Jay-Z was a focal point of the film's pre-release advertisements and his music makes a significant impact on the film itself; Jay produced the "Great Gatsby" soundtrack, which includes new songs from Lana Del Rey, Sia, Gotye and Beyonce.

With "The Great Gatsby" out now, here's a look at eight other movies (and one famous television series) that memorably used an anachronistic music cue.
