'Grey's Anatomy' Renewed For Season 10 On ABC

"Grey's Anatomy" has been renewed by ABC for a 10th season of hospital hookups, major medical drama and life-changing natural disasters.

Shonda Rhimes' hit medical drama -- which stars Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Sara Ramirez, Jessica Capshaw, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr, Kevin McKidd, Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew, among many other newbies welcomed as interns each season -- has always been strong in the ratings, but Season 9 has seen a resurgence in viewers (averaging over 12.5 million viewers an episode), making it even more likely that "Grey's Anatomy" would be renewed.

Rhimes tweeted to fans about "Grey's Anatomy's" renewal, along with her newer hit "Scandal."

And she followed it up with this:

As with every season finale of the show, the Season 9 finale sounds like it'll possibly take the lives of some of the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital employees. Pompeo, Dempsey, Oh, Wilson, Pickens and Chambers all signed two-year contracts last year, taking them through Season 10, but that doesn't mean ABC needs to honor that deal, as Wilson so eloquently reminded HuffPost TV when we chatted recently. So fans, brace yourselves: Even with this renewal and those extended contracts, no one is safe.

In addition to "Grey's," ABC renewed "Castle," "Last Man Standing," "The Middle," "Modern Family," "Nashville," "Once Upon A Time," "Revenge," "Scandal" and "Suburgatory."

ABC canceled an additional five series from the 2012-2013 season: "Body Of Proof," "Happy Endings," "How To Live With Your Parents," "Malibu Country" and "Red Widow," which join the previously canceled "666 Park Avenue," "Don't Trust The B---- In Apartment 23," "Last Resort," "Private Practice" and "Zero Hour." ABC has not confirmed the reported fates of "Family Tools" and "The Neighbors."

The network picked up a number of comedies for the 2013-2014 season: "Super Fun Night" starring Rebel Wilson; ensemble "Mixology"; Malin Akerman's "Trophy Wife"; family comedy "The Goldbergs" and "Back in the Game" starring James Caan. On the drama side, in addition to "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," ABC picked up spinoff "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland"; drama "The Returned"; David Zabel's "Lucky 7" and "Betrayal"; the Christian Slater/Steve Zahn vehicle "Mind Games" and Sofia Vergara-produced "Killer Women."
