The "Grey's Anatomy" finale is upon us and things are only going to worse when the superstorm really hits Grey Sloan Memorial.
Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) goes into labor in The Huffington Post's exclusive sneak peek above and, of course, there are some complications. Just as she finds out she needs a C-section, the power goes out at the hospital.
"This is not how I wanted to do this," Meredith says as she undergoes the surgery. "You once said that about marrying me," Derek (Patrick Dempsey) lightheartedly replies.
But soon, there are only tears instead of smiles in the operating room.
"Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes has teased Meredith's struggle with giving birth and told TV Guide that in the finale, Meredith goes into labor under conditions that are "the exact opposite of any conditions under which anybody ever in the world would want to have to give birth. Ellen joked, 'That's, of course, how it would be for Meredith Grey.'"
But Rhimes said Meredith's journey is "also a really beautiful story, and," she added to TV Guide, "I think Ellen did amazing work on it and I'm really excited about it."
The official description for the "Grey's Anatomy" finale is vague -- "Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital enters crisis mode as the storm rages, resources become scarce and patients flood in by the busload. Meanwhile, one of the doctors fights for their life" -- but Rhimes says things aren't completely bleak this year. "There's plenty of jeopardy in the finale, there's a lot of pain, but there's also some joy," she told TV Guide. "Unlike some seasons when there was no joy and only pain, there is some joy."
