If you doze through the safety demonstrations when you fly, it's time to pay attention. Captain Sully Sullenberger stressed the importance of passengers knowing how safety features on an airplane operate so you can stay safe during an emergency when he joined me on this episode of Mondays With Marlo.

The best ways to increase your survival chances if something goes amiss while in air is by paying attention to the safety demonstrations on each particular flight -- do you use a seat cushion for flotation or a life vest? Where are your plane's emergency exits? While flight attendants will do their best to help during an emergency, there is not an attendant for each passenger. Ultimately, said Capt. Sully, it's the passenger's responsibility to know how safety works.
