KTCHN Dance: Ryan Heffington And Nolan Hendrickson's Celebration Of The Body In Motion (PHOTOS)

Dance The Body Electric

What do you get when you combine a New York-based painter with an eye for the body's freakiest permutations and an LA-based choreographer devoted to helping IRL bodies reach their sweaty and freaky limits? You get KTCHN, a fashion show, theatrical performance, drag night, art exhibition, dance party extravaganza.

Choreographer Ryan Heffington, the force behind Silverlake's Sweaty Sundays, has choreographed a dizzying interactive performance based on Nolan Hendrickson's color-happy canvases. Hendrickson himself designed the set along with Adrian Gilliland, and the eye-candy couture was provided by Mindy LeBrock.

We're huge fans of Hendrickson's paintings, which offer a two-dimensional version of Ryan Trecartin's hyperactive videos, in which race and sexuality are thrown on and tossed off like different outrageous ensembles. His flat and freaktastic worlds make us happy to be the singular, restless creatures we are. Inspired by Hendrickson's works, KTCHN centers around LA-centric narrative threads including celebrity obsession, privacy, loneliness and queer culture. Expect your senses to be fully massaged.

KTCHN runs from May 17 until May 19 at Mack Sennett Studios in Silverlake. Get tickets online and check out a taste of the show in the slideshow below.
