Joseph Sebastian Takes Elderly Dog, Zeus, On Australia Biking Trip (PHOTOS)

Posted: Updated:

Joseph Sebastian and his 15-year-old dog, Zeus, are in the midst of one, final journey together.

Since December 2011, the two have been biking throughout Australia, meeting new people along the way, and enjoying each other's company.

Zeus, who's almost entirely deaf, sits inside a blanket-filled cart that's attached to his owner's bike. He even has a little retractable roof in case inclement weather hits.

Last week, Imgur user ellrank, ran into the duo outside her office. While she photographed them, she learned their incredible story.

Ellrank told that Sebastian has raised Zeus since birth. When his pet's eyesight and hearing began to deteriorate, he decided to treat him to a farewell trip.

"I dont want Zeus to just die," Sebastian told ellrank. "He has cared for me more than I have cared for him."

According to Sebastian's Flickr account, the response he and Zeus have gotten in the past year is overwhelming.

"I wish to express my enormous gratitude for all the kind wishes and lovely words we have received," Sebastian wrote. "It has been amazing and very unexpected."

Ellrank also adds that along the cycling journey, Sebastian likes to draw abstract pen sketches to give to the people he meets.

"I love meeting new people," he told ellrank, "and they just love Zeus."

Clarification: An earlier version of this article stated that Zeus was almost entirely blind. Zeus is not blind. According to Sebastian's Flckr account, Zeus' vision is "fine for his age."

UPDATE: June 6 -- Joseph Sebastian, the cyclist, told HuffPost that he made none of the remarks attributed to him in the story posted to Imgur by user ellrank, or that were subsequently reported to He declined a request to clarify further and would only confirm that he is traveling with his dog, Zeus, by bicycle. Neither nor ellrank's Imgur page were substantially altered.
