Joe Biden Picks On Obama For Teleprompter Use

Vice President Joe Biden teased President Barack Obama on Tuesday for his reliance on a teleprompter.

Speaking at a Jewish American Heritage Month reception in New York City, Biden asked that the teleprompter be taken down before he made his speech, according to The Hill.

"You can't tell Barack that the teleprompter's down" Biden said, according to the pool report. "The standing joke in the office is Barack's learning to speak without a teleprompter, I'm learning to speak with one. I apologize for the teleprompter."

Obama has been chided by both the media and political opponents for his using teleprompters during speeches -- even though it is a standard practice by politicians.

During his 2012 presidential reelection campaign, Obama made an effort to scale back his teleprompter use, instead opting for notes on paper in order to encourage more unscripted moments on the campaign trail and to avoid technological malfunctions.

Meanwhile, Biden has had his share of verbal gaffes and mishaps as a result of off-the-cuff remarks.

During a Democratic Party primary election debate in 2007, Biden, running for the presidential nomination at the time, was asked if he would be able to control his "verbosity" on the world stage.

"Senator Biden, words have in the past gotten you in trouble, words that were borrowed and words that some found hateful. An editorial in the Los Angeles Times said, 'In addition to his uncontrolled verbosity, Biden is a gaffe machine.' Can you reassure voters in this country that you would have the discipline you would need on the world stage, Senator?" moderator Brian Williams asked.

Biden looked out placidly and with a smirk on his face replied with a simple, "Yes."
