'Love Thy Neighbor': Behind The Scenes Of Tyler Perry's New Comedy (VIDEO)

WATCH: Behind The Scenes Of OWN's New Comedy

Tyler Perry's new comedy, "Love Thy Neighbor," which premieres tonight, began shooting on a sunny day in February -- on Valentine's Day, to be exact. When the actors stepped into character that first day, they weren't sure how the shooting was going to go, especially with Tyler on set.

In this video, the "Love Thy Neighbor" actors take us inside the first day, revealing surprising stories about their experiences and Tyler's unique methods as a director.

Jonathan Chase, who plays the fun-loving Sam, reveals that the cast got a big surprise when Tyler took them off-script. "Mr. Perry wrote two scenes on the fly," Jonathan says. "[He] started throwing lines at us and changing things up, and we basically collaborated together in the moment, on the spot. And it worked."

The spontaneity initially threw off Darmirra Brunson, who plays Sam's neighbor Drew. "At first, I was a little shocked. I was like, 'Oh my gosh, we're not going exactly the way the script says that we should go!'" she says. "But, very quickly, you kind of get what [Tyler's] groove is and what he's doing."

In the video, several other "Love Thy Neighbor" cast members reveal their own biggest surprises on the first day of shooting, from their first-scene fears to hearing Tyler's feedback about their performances.

"Love Thy Neighbor" premieres tonight, Wednesday, May 29, at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
