Students at the University of Cambridge in England who took a law exam on Saturday were asked to consider a pretty graphic scenario in one of the test's questions.

The eyebrow-raising Criminal Law exam question was photographed and posted online by Sebastian Salek, a student journalist studying for a law degree from the school's Clare College.

The question outlined the initiation of a hypothetical drinking society called the "Vizards." It began: "Sandra is President of The Vizards, a College drinking society. She is organising the initiation of new members. After a great deal of alcohol has been drunk, the members of the society form a circle around Billy, Gilbert and Richard who are to be initiated.”

The question then described three explicitly sexual and violent hazing scenarios, and asked the test-takers to consider whether any criminal acts had occurred.

(The full test question is posted below, and an extended discussion about its actual answer is ongoing in Reddit's forums.)

More than 200 students at Cambridge's Faculty of Law took the test with the unusual question, the BBC reports.

"The reaction in the exam room was pretty non-existent because of the stressful atmosphere, but outside I think there was a mixture of feelings," Salek told the BBC. "Some found it funny that a drinking society initiation was mentioned in a question, as the university tends to turn a blind eye to activities like that. Others were quite shocked."

Cambridge officials did not return a request for comment from The Huffington Post. However, they did acknowledge the question to British media outlets.

"In the Part One Criminal Law examination paper set by the University of Cambridge Law Faculty, hypothetical situations are presented in order to test students' understanding of different aspects of Criminal Law," a Cambridge spokesman told both the Daily Mirror and the BBC.
