A custom "Rest In Peace" T-Shirt worn to honor a slain relative led detectives in New Orleans to a man wanted in the investigation of a fatal shooting.
Dale Lambert, 26, was arrested at about 9 a.m. on Monday in the murder of Bernard Santiago, as well as the wounding of another man in the Treme neighborhood of the city, WDSU reports.
Police say that Lambert was wearing the "R.I.P" T-shirt -- designed to honor his deceased cousin -- during the March 22 incident.
While investigating the case, detectives were able to obtain neighborhood surveillance video of the shooting. Watching the video, detectives saw that the shooter was wearing what turned out to be a custom-made "R.I.P." T-shirt with the image of a man on the front, according to police.
Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses and identified the individual in the T-shirt as Lambert's recently killed cousin. That breakthrough, along with additional witness interviews, led police to file an arrest warrant for Lambert.
Lambert's criminal record includes arrests for aggravated assault, illegal weapons possession, felon with a firearm and possession of marijuana, WWLTV reports.
Lambert faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery.
