Shelter Magazines May Be A Sign That Our Economy Is Rebounding, Some Experts Say

It's not just because spring's a good time to get the job done.

We probably don't have to tell you that we love shelter magazines. Even though the internet kinda-sorta competes in the same sphere, we geniunely look forward to receiving the latest issue of House Beautiful, Country Living, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, Veranda and all the other glossies we've failed to mention in this sentence.

Years ago, such a thoughtful admission would soon be followed with terrible news. As in: "These magazines will be gone!" But that's thankfully not the case anymore. An indicator has popped up that are prompting some experts to believe that shelter magazines aren't going anywhere soon. Ads in these mags have boomed by 7.2 percent this past quarter, reportedly thanks to the increase in spending from the house category. "When the housing industry has an uptick, we can feel it,” said Kate Kelly Smith, senior VP-group publishing director of Hearst Design Group.

So, the next time you buy a fabulous vintage find or decide to give homeownership a go, you just might be helping your favorite mag stay afloat. Somehow.
