'Ask Amy': Amy Poehler Gives Advice On Getting Through Tough Times (VIDEO)

Amy Poehler's Tips For Getting Through A Rough Breakup (VIDEO)

Going through a rough breakup? No worries, Amy Poehler has your back.

While your first instinct to mend a broken heart might be to dig into a pint of Ben & Jerry's, Amy has a different remedy in mind: volunteering.

When Tamika wrote in to Amy saying that her father told her the best way to get through heartache is to give back, the comedian shared a similar sentiment. In her "Smart Girls" web series, Amy explains how we can use uncomfortable moments in life as opportunities to grow, discover our passions and help others.

"Instead of hardening our hearts and believing that we'll never find love again, we can open our hearts and try to see how this vulnerability and this pain can make us a more compassionate person," she tells Tamika.

For ways that you can volunteer, listen to Amy's advice in the video above.

Though eating a little ice cream, too, probably can't hurt.
