Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter John Legend has collaborated with some of music's biggest names (from Stevie Wonder to Jay-Z), but there's one superstar who John has worked with time and time again: Kanye West. Kanye has been the producer on each of John's solo albums, and, over the course of a decade, the two developed a friendship that began before either had even become famous.
In an upcoming interview for "Oprah's Next Chapter," John opens up about his long-standing friendship with Kanye, revealing how Kanye's public persona matches up with who he is privately.
"I think a lot of who he is in public is who he is," John says about Kanye. "He's not afraid to tell the truth... He's bold. We obviously have very different personalities."
John continues, "You've heard him talk about the celebrity aspect of his life and the fame, and he acknowledges that he's in this world. But he's also conflicted about it. You can tell through his art and through the things he says."
Kayne may not be a different person in his private life, but John says there is still a side to Kanye that the public overlooks. "People don't always see the generous side of [Kanye]," he states. "They don't always see the guy who's been working with me and contributing to my work for over 10 years. They don't necessarily see all of that in public, and I see that."
