Booz Allen Hamilton: Edward Snowden News 'Shocking', 'A Grave Violation'

Booz Allen Hamilton, the firm that employs Edward Snowden, released a statement following the news that Snowden leaked classified documents about controversial NSA tactics to a reporter.

Their statement reads:

Booz Allen can confirm that Edward Snowden, 29, has been an employee of our firm for less than 3 months, assigned to a team in Hawaii. News reports that this individual has claimed to have leaked classified information are shocking, and if accurate, this action represents a grave violation of the code of conduct and core values of our firm. We will work closely with our clients and authorities in their investigation of this matter.

Snowden's whistleblowing helped reveal that the NSA had been collecting millions of phone records daily and tapping into data from some of the world's largest tech companies, like Google, Apple and AOL (who owns the Huffington Post.) Glenn Greenwald of the Guardian broke the bombshell story on Wednesday.

On Sunday, at Snowden's request, the Guardian revealed his identity and motivations behind the leak. After stints in the U.S. army, the CIA and the NSA, Snowden grew increasingly uncomfortable with behaviors he felt were "an existential threat to democracy."

Snowden joined Booz Allen Hamilton, which is employed as a defense contractor by the U.S. government, in 2013.
