The 2013 Tony Awards were held Sunday night in New York City. And for an event honoring the best of Broadway's theatrics, it's no surprise that there were plenty of dramatic style moments on the red carpet.
One of the night's biggest winners, Cicely Tyson, certainly turned heads in a B Michael gown of cascading purple satin ruffles that engulfed the actress from head to toe. But a big, over-the-top dress was the perfect compliment to her even bigger win. The 88-year-old star, who returned to the stage after 30 years, picked up the award for Best Actress in a Play from her performance in "The Trip to Bountiful." Simply amazing.
Speaking of amazing, Angela Bassett was also on hand for the event. The stunning actress, who was joined by her Tony award-winning husband Courtney B. Vance, stepped out in a plum-hued Theia gown with a sequin-and-pearl encrusted bodice. We've said it before and we'll say it again...black don't crack.
Keeping with the purple color theme, "The Trip To Bountiful" actress Condola Rashad opted for a deep eggplant, mermaid-style Pamella Roland gown that hugged her curves beautifully. She was joined by her father and NBA star-turned-TV-personality Ahmad Rashad (we must say, we're bummed that her mom Phylicia Rashad aka Clair Huxtable wasn't there too).
Rounding out our favorite looks of the evening were "Motown The Musical" actress Valisia LeKae, who wowed in a fuchsia one-shoulder Esosa gown, and 'Pippin' star, Patina Miller, who captivated in a bold inky blue Zac Posen creation.
