Kmart Loss Prevention Officer Charged With Sexually Assaulting Shoplifter

A Northern Virginia Kmart employee hired to prevent shoplifting has been charged with forcing a suspected shoplifter to perform a sexual act on him.

Detectives conducted an investigation which led to the arrest of Tabbasum H. Gilani, 29, of 7965 Almeda Court, in Lorton. Gilani was the loss prevention officer who detained the victim earlier in the day. Gilani was charged with abduction with intent to defile and forcible sodomy. He was transported the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

The Kmart is in Springfield, Va. -- a little over 10 miles from the nation's capital -- where the incident has put some local shoppers on edge.

“That’s horrible,” Nakesha Brunson told ABC7. “You just made me scared to shop around here.”

The 23-year old victim was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting and later transported to the hospital, according to police.
