No Loki In 'Avengers 2'? Joss Whedon Says Tom Hiddleston Won't Return For Sequel

Beloved 'Avengers' Star Won't Return For Sequel

Sorry, Hiddlestoners: Tom Hiddleston probably won't return for "Marvel's The Avengers 2."

In an interview with Empire, director Joss Whedon discussed the blockbuster sequel and noted that it won't be the same as its predecessor.

"Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you'll be looking for [a quim moment]," Whedon said, referring to the controversial phrase Hiddleston's Loki says to Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow in "The Avengers." "First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki's not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back, not as an insult, it's just a nice word."

That statement from Whedon, of course, doesn't necessarily mean Hiddleston will be missing from "Marvel's The Avengers 2" -- after all, Marvel has made post-credit sequences and surprise cameos part of its superhero DNA -- just that he won't have a major role. Hiddleston fans upset at this revelation can take solace in the fact that the nefarious Loki does appear in "Thor: The Dark World," which Marvel is set to release on Nov. 8.
