Battle Of Gettysburg Anniversary Draws Eager Re-Enactors

Posted: Updated:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Thousands of Civil War buffs are getting ready for the pinnacle of their re-enacting careers when they gather in Pennsylvania for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.

This year's commemoration is such a big deal that it's getting two giant re-enactments. One starts the weekend of June 28, while the other begins on Independence Day.

They'll bookend the actual anniversary of the pivotal battle that took place July 1-3, 1863.

There's a bit of competitiveness over which group will put on the better re-enactment.

But leaders of both groups say they share the same goals of educating the public and commemorating the war's bloodiest skirmish.

Re-enactments occur on private properties, outside of Gettysburg National Military Park.
