Anthony Weiner Is Now The Frontrunner In NYC Mayor Race, According To Poll

Anthony Weiner is now the frontrunner in the race for the Democratic New York City mayoral nomination, a new poll shows.

The Wall Street Journal-NBC New York-Marist poll shows the former congressman with 25 percent of the vote, 5 points above City Council Speaker and longtime frontrunner, Christine Quinn.

Bill Thompson jumped two points to 13 percent, Bill de Blasio dropped to 10 percent, John Liu stayed steady at 8 percent, while Reverend Erick Salgado and Sal Albanese polled at 2 percent and 1 percent, respectively.

The poll also shows a boost in potential voters for Weiner, with 49 percent of voters saying they'd consider voting for him, up from 40 percent two months ago.

In April, Weiner was polling at 15 percent to Quinn's 26. In May, he climbed to 19 percent, while Quinn dropped to 24 percent.

Weiner, who resigned from Congress in 2011 amid a sexting scandal, officially announced his campaign last month.

Meanwhile, 28 percent of Republican voters picked Joseph Lhota, 21 percent picked John Catsimatidis, and 10 percent pickd George McDonald.
