"Dexter" and "Ray Donovan" are looking like a formidable one-two ratings punch for Showtime this summer. Both antihero dramas premiered to strong ratings Sunday night that broke Showtime records.
"Ray Donovan," Showtime's new drama starring Lieb Schreiber as a Hollywood fixer, became the top-rated debut episode in the premium cable network's history, beating out "Homeland's" 2011 premiere. "Ray Donovan" scored 1.35 million viewers in its 10 p.m. timeslot, besting "Homeland's" premiere by 25 percent. A total of 2.2 million viewers checked out "Ray Donovan" on Sunday night.
"Dexter" premiered its eighth and final season with the series' most-watched premiere ever, drawing in 2.5 million viewers in its initial 9 p.m. airing and 3.2 million overall.
"Dexter" airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime, followed by "Ray Donovan" at 10.
