Morsi Ouster Dominates Newspaper Front Pages

News of the Egyptian military ousting President Mohammed Morsi led newspaper front pages across the country on Thursday.

On Wednesday, crowds in Cairo erupted into celebrations as Egyptian military chief Al-Sisi announced the removal of Morsi, who had been in office for a little more than a year. The chief justice of the constitutional court would serve as the country's interim leader.

As readers in the United States picked up their newspapers Thursday morning, most front pages ran with reports of Morsi's ousting and stories about national Independence Day celebrations. In fact, some papers put photos of fireworks in the U.S. celebrating the Fourth of July next to images from fireworks celebrating Morsi's exit in Egypt. Most headlines were straightforward, though some papers, like the New York Post, put their own spin on the situation. "MORSI BEAU COUP," the Post's headline read.
