Is waiting for the weekend getting harder and harder as summer flies by?
Well if you need a little humpday escape, then let The Ali Forney Center take you away. The annual Summer benefit event aptly named, Oasis, will be held Wednesday, July 17 from 7-10pm at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City.
For the second year in a row, Parker Posey will host the event and this year she's bringing along special guest and "RuPaul's Drag Race" alumni, Detox, to perform.
In the press release for the event sent to The Huffington Post, Posey says, "The housing and support the Ali Forney Center gives the LGBTQ youth community is indelible to what the spirit of this city is about: the nurturing and acceptance of all of our differences and a place that allows that difference to blossom."
While the Oasis event has been one of the biggest fundraising events for The Ali Forney Center, this year is even more critical after Hurricane Sandy devastated one of the center's drop-in locations last year, and donations are needed now more than ever. So thanks to the generosity of Barclay's bank, 100% of the proceeds from this year's Oasis event will go to The Ali Forney Center.
“The last year has been especially difficult for AFC -- when our drop-in services were disrupted by Hurricane Sandy, to the recent Congressional sequestration," Ali Forney Center Executive Director Carl Siciliano remarked in via press release. "Oasis, over the last four years, has become one of our most important fundraisers... With Parker once again joining Oasis again this year, it’s set to continue to be a great event.”
The Ali Forney Center is one of the nation's largest support systems for gay teens, with ten sites in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, which provide housing, as well as medical and healthcare services for LGBTQ youth.
Tickets for Oasis start at $75 and go up to a $1000. If you want to help out a fantastic organization while hanging out with Parker Posey and a drag queen superstar along the Manhattan waterfront at sunset, click here.
