Five years ago today, an ailing Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) made a dramatic return to the Senate floor after being diagnosed with brain cancer.
Kennedy returned to cast a single vote to help break a Republican filibuster of an important Medicare bill. Kennedy, who was 76 at the time, shouted "aye!" and flashed two thumbs up as lawmakers gave him a lengthy welcome back to the Senate floor.
