Bill O'Reilly On Texas Abortion Law: Women Can Currently Use Reason Simple As A 'Sprained Hand'

O'Reilly: Some Women Can Get Abortions For Excuse Simple As A 'Sprained Hand'

Bill O'Reilly offhandedly remarked Wednesday night that women in Texas can currently have an abortion for any reason, even something as simple as a sprained hand.

Although abortion is currently prohibited after 28 weeks in Texas, the Texas House passed an bill on Wednesday that, among other restrictive policies, would ban the procedure after 20 weeks.

In response, "The O'Reilly Factor" host declared that in some states, "...You can just kill the baby -- or the fetus -- however you want to describe it, any time you want, for any reason. You know, women's health, that's any reason at all."

O'Reilly later made the outrageous claim that abortions could be conducted "for any reason, women's health! 'Hey! Look I sprained my hand! I can't, ya know...'"

Ironically, Texas Gov. Rick Perry used the same reason for wanting to pass the new extreme abortion measures.

"Now is not the time to waver, however, as the Senate continues its important work in support of women's health and protecting the lives of our most vulnerable Texans," Perry said in a statement.

If the new restrictions become law, 37 of Texas' 42 abortion clinics could be shut down, and as HuffPost previously pointed out, rural, low-income women would be most affected.

A Wednesday New York Times op-ed cited an email from Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, which stated that "nearly 99 percent of abortions occur before 21 weeks; abortions later on often involve rare, severe fetal abnormalities and real threats to a woman’s health."
