Ben Affleck & 'Gone Girl': Actor In Talks To Star In Upcoming Adaptation Of Best-Selling Novel For David Fincher

Ben Affleck may have found his next role.

According to Deadline.com, the 40-year-old actor is in talks to star in "Gone Girl," the upcoming adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling 2012 novel of the same name. Affleck would play Nick Dunne, a man involved in a highly toxic relationship with his wife. The marriage dissolves to the point of crime and horrid violence. Amy, Nick's wife, has not yet been cast. According to TheWrap, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt are on the short list of possibilities for that role.

The rights to "Gone Girl," which nabbed a spot on The New York Times' Best-Seller List, were purchased by 20th Century Fox last year as a part of a reported seven-figure deal. Reese Witherspoon's production company, Pacific Standard, will produce the film.

Flynn has signed on to adapt her novel for the big screen, with David Fincher ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") directing. "Gone Girl" will reportedly begin shooting in the fall. Affleck had been set to direct an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's "Live By Night," but that Warner Bros. film will now happen after "Gone Girl."
