'Sharknado' Blows Up On Twitter With Hilarious Reactions And Impressive Stats (TWEETS)

The Hilarious 'Sharknado' Twitter Takeover

If you were on Twitter Thursday night, there was only one topic of discussion: "Sharknado."

Audiences couldn't get enough of the campy Syfy made-for-TV movie, which stars "American Pie" alumna Tara Reid and "90210's" Ian Ziering as survivors a tornado that lifted sharks out of the ocean and deposited them all over LA.

"Sharknado" was Syfy's most social telecast ever and easily the most social program of the night, generating nearly 5,000 tweets a minute, according to NBC Universal. The show bested the currently controversial "Big Brother" on CBS and that network's ever-popular "Big Bang Theory" with its social numbers. "Sharknado" was within 2,500 tweets of "Game of Thrones'" emotional "Red Wedding" episode. Clearly, the bloodier the better on Twitter.

Sadly, "Sharknado" star Ziering was too busy at Chippendales to engage with fans on Twitter while the movie aired.

But he's in for a treat today. From politicians to the Dowager Countess to meteorologists to Golden Globe winners, everyone was getting in on the "Sharknado" commentary on Twitter.

Check out nearly 100 of the best "Sharknado" tweets below!

Missed "Sharknado" the first time around? Syfy will air it again on Thursday, July 18 at 7 p.m. ET.
