Once upon a time, before the Internet and cruise-ship debacles, travel was an elegant, exotic event.
Luckily, we can look back on the hayday of tourism fondly with the help of relics from the 20th century. The Boston Public Library print department has archived and cataloged hundreds of vintage travel posters and made them accessible to the public via their Flickr page.
The posters show an elite and adventurous side of travel that seems to have fallen out of style today. Rather than advertising deals or flashy luxury, these posters are subtle -- less advertisement, more work of art.
