Ken Cuccinelli: My Beliefs On 'The Personal Challenges Of Homosexuality Haven't Changed'

Cuccinelli Won't Budge On Anti-Gay Views

Virginia Attorney General and 2013 gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli (R) said in a Saturday morning debate that his anti-gay views "haven't changed."

“My personal beliefs about the personal challenges of homosexuality haven’t changed,” Cuccinelli said when confronted by rival Democrat Terry McAuliffe, according to Politico.

McAuliffe called out Cuccinelli on controversial comments he made about homosexuality that were reported by the Washington Post in February 2008.

"When you look at the homosexual agenda, I cannot support something that I believe brings nothing but self-destruction, not only physically but of their soul," Cuccinelli told a meeting of the Family Foundation, the lobby that fights in Richmond against abortion.

Cuccinelli defended those views on Saturday, saying he wasn't alone in his beliefs.

“The notion that because I believe marriage ought to be protected, because I believe life begins at conception -- just like hundreds of thousands of independents and Democrats -- this isn’t just me, it isn’t just Republicans," Cuccinelli said. "There are lots of Virginians, millions, perhaps, of Virginians, who share my sincerely held beliefs."

Cuccinelli recently launched a new website that casts Virginia's anti-sodomy law as a valuable tool to protect children. The site doesn't just argue for the law -- it also attacks McAuliffe, accusing him of "playing politics" instead of "protecting our children."
