Maddie Higgins, 6-Year-Old With Cancer, Gets Snowy Surprise Of A Lifetime

Posted: Updated:

At just 6 years old, Maddie Higgins has undergone 60 radiation treatments and two brain surgeries. The little girl from Arlington, TX has glioblastoma (GBM), an aggressive from of brain cancer that is rare in children, the Star-Telegram reports.

According to the outlet, Maddie had made a wish list that included one seemingly simple request; she wanted to play in the snow. But it is July in Texas and making that dream a reality seemed next-to-impossible until Kinsley's Kure, a group that aims to enhance the lives of sick children, figured out a solution.

Last Friday, they hired the company Emergency Ice to deliver 20,000 pounds of ice to Maddie's neighbor's house and turned it into fake snow. NBC 5 News captured the moment Maddie's dad, Patrick, took off her blindfold in front of the "snow" pile.

"Impossible! It's summer!" Maddie said. The first thing she did was build a snowman.

Maddie's mom, Melanie, was overwhelmed with emotion. “We wanted to give her every experience she can possibly have ... We are just making her happy,” she told the Star-Telegram.
