WASHINGTON -- Someone hates these Priuses. (And one Smart Car.)

A spate of tire-slashings in Northern Virginia has been directed almost entirely at fuel-efficient hybrids. Fifteen Toyota Priuses -- up to 53 miles per gallon! -- had tires slashed. One Smart Car -- 38 MPG on the highway -- also fell prey, according to Patch.

ARLnow.com reports that one additional vehicle, a Ford F-150 pickup truck, also had its tires slashed. The truck does not have the same impressive -- infuriating? -- low gas usage as the other victims. But, perhaps providing a different sort of inciting quality, it is owned by the county.

Arlington police are asking for help finding the person or persons responsible for the attacks, all thought to have taken place on Sunday night.

"It's a violent crime against a gentle beast," one Prius owner told NBC Washington. "My poor little hybrid."
