How about you give her a lift? How about she just takes one?

Tow truck driver Michael Frazier stopped to help a woman whose Hertz rental car had broken down Thursday morning on Interstate 95 near Ormond Beach, Fla.

When the woman, Angela Estrella, asked Frazier for a lift to New York, the tow truck driver said he couldn't go that far, so she asked to borrow his vehicle and drive herself.

According to an Volusia County Sheriff's Office news release, the truck driver jokingly agreed, thinking the woman "was playing" then told her "no." Maybe Estrella didn't hear him right, or maybe it was just false courtesy to ask in the first place. Either way, police say she hopped in the flat bed and drove off.

"I'm on the roadside... on the phone with Hertz [and] she jumps in my truck and takes off," Frazier said in a 911 call obtained by the Orlando Sentinel.

Sheriff's deputies caught up with Estrella at a gas station and arrested her on charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle.

The Orlando Sentinel notes this isn't the first time Estrella's driving has gotten her in trouble with the law. Last August, Estrella was arrested following a high-speed chase with Florida State Police, in which she rammed her vehicle into several others in an attempt to kill herself and her two children, authorities said.
