An editor and photographer behind the infamous topless photos of Kate Middleton have formally charged in France, multiple outlets reported on Friday.

The AFP first reported that Laurence Pieau, the editor of Closer magazine, had been charged for publishing the photos last year. The publication of the pictures, which showed Middleton sunbathing topless, had been decried as a violation of France's privacy laws. Pieau will now face trial along with two of her colleagues who were already under formal criminal investigation.

An unnamed photographer was also charged for allegedly taking the offending snapshots.

The photographs rocketed around the world after Closer, along with magazines in several other European countries, published them last summer. The royal family immediately went to court.
