BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer will guest star on a new CBS sitcom, "Mom."

Series creator Chuck Lorre said Spencer, who won an Oscar for "The Help," will appear in one episode of "Mom" as a woman with big problems.

They're so big, Lorre said, they put the woes of the character played by series star Anna Faris in perspective.

On "Mom," Faris plays a newly sober single parent, with Allison Janney as her estranged mother.

Lorre, appearing at a Television Critics Association meeting Monday, also said there's a love interest ahead for Faris' Christy. He'll be played by Justin Long.

"Mom" premieres Monday, Sept. 23, on CBS.
