When it was revealed that Cote de Pablo was leaving "NCIS," viewers were devastated ... and were wondering what it could possibly mean for the future of her character Ziva and her love interest Tony (Michael Weatherly).

In an interview with TVLine, "NCIS" showrunner Gary Glasberg opened up about how surprised he was when de Pablo announced her decision.

"Someone asked me if I was planning for this, but I really wasn’t, so basically the minute that this became real, I had to throw out a lot of what I was planning to do and start from scratch," Glasberg explained to TVLine. "But what came out of it is a really terrific [season-opening] two-parter that I think people are going to be really blown away by."

And according to Weatherly, all loose ends will be tied up as far as Tony and Ziva are concerned.

"The will they/won't they is answered," Weatherly told to TV Guide, cryptically adding, "Tony's going to be forced to face this Sword of Damocles that's been hanging over him since Season 3."

When pressed by TVLine for answers on whether or not Tiva will happen, Weatherly had this to say about the final two episodes with Ziva: “When you want something for so long, and you want and you want and you want, and it almost gets warped because you’ve wanted it for maybe longer than anybody should ever want anything, and it’s sitting five feet from you in an office…. When that is dealt with, a dam breaks and it creates a fresh new and most importantly dynamic element to the show," Weatherly said. "That eight-year ‘holding pattern’ will be dealt with, but more important than that is what happens next. Where does Tony go after that? And [the answer to that] is the most exciting thing I’ve heard in a long time.”

How do you think the Tony/Ziva storyline will end?

Season 11 of "NCIS" premieres on Tues., Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
