Sydney Leathers Backs Christine Quinn For New York City Mayor

Sydney Leathers, the woman at the center of former Rep. Anthony Weiner's (D-N.Y.) latest sexting scandal, is endorsing Christine Quinn for New York City mayor.

In an interview with Complex magazine published Thursday, Leathers said she would back Weiner's mayoral rival if she were eligible to vote in the race.

"Obviously she doesn’t have the impulse control problems that Anthony has," Leathers said. "I love the fact that she is out and proud. I have so many gay friends and I feel like she would be a great ally for that community. She cares about middle-class people. She cares about students. I feel like she is more in line and up to the standard that should be set for the mayor."

According to Politico, Quinn's campaign had no comment on Leathers' endorsement.

Leathers, who went public with her involvement with Weiner last month, lives in Princeton, Indiana. In an interview with the Daily News published Sunday, Leathers said Weiner spoke to her about his mayoral ambitions during their phone sex sessions.

"He would talk about how he felt everything would be okay from his first scandal," she said.

Before Weiner's messages with Leathers went public last month, the former congressman had led his Democratic opponents in the polls. However, he has continued to slip in recent surveys, with a New York Times/Siena College poll released Thursday finding Weiner in fourth place. Quinn, however, topped that poll with support from 25 percent of registered Democrats in the city.
