You'd think with so many single-parent households in the U.S. today, moms and dads wouldn't face as much criticism or questioning as they may have in the past. But as single moms who recently joined HuffPost Live said, that's definitely not the case.
Cara Lemieux, a mom in New York City who penned the blog post "Top 5 Things You Should Never Ask A Single Mom," told HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd that she often has other adults questioning her decision to raise a child alone.
The top question she gets? "Are you dating anyone?"
"It is constant," Lemieux said. "It started while I was still breastfeeding. I remember saying, 'It's not going to be cute to bring a breast pump out on a date."
Lemieux acknowledged that most people who ask her that question are coming from a place of love, but she said logistically right now, dating does not seem possible.
The mom said she also gets asked questions about her finances, which she said is especially frustrating because she would never ask anyone about their money.
"It's just such a loaded, loaded question," she said.
