Glencoe Valley Road Fire, Wildfire In Jefferson County Prompts 252 Mandatory Evacuation Notices

Colorado Wildfire Prompts Mandatory Evacuations

Colorado residents in the Blue Mountain Estates area received a Level 1 pre-evacuation notice from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Monday afternoon for a fire burning in Coal Creek Canyon.

That pre-evacuation notice was soon after heightened to a Level 2 mandatory evacuation, recommending that residents leave their homes as soon as possible.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Tweeted that five agencies were on the scene and that they had a helicopter making water drops.

Temperatures at Denver International Airport were in the 90s and authorities say it is not yet known how this fire was started.

"You could hardly see the mountain behind us. The smoke was so thick," Troy Tomasko told 9News.

By Monday evening however, authorities completely lifted the evacuation notices and reported 25 containment. The fire had grown to 6 acres. By Tuesday morning, firefighters reported 50 percent containment and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office tweeted that they were hoping to reach full containment Tuesday, crediting the many agencies for helping get the fire under control.
