DIY Renovation Lead To Major Price Cut In Security Deposit And A Sweet Home (PHOTOS)

Anyone who has ever rented a place knows that between owing the first and last month's rent and a security deposit upfront, the costs can add up fast. But one clever Redditor was able to knock down the price by doing a little DIY renovation.

User itgoestoeleven uploaded photos of a beautiful Victorian home that the landlord let the Redditor refinish in exchange for lowering the security deposit. After days of sanding, painting and pulling up nasty carpet in the living room, the renters ended up with a sweet little abode. More importantly however, they saved themselves a whopping $1,300 -- not too shabby for a few days of manual labor.
