While honesty and good communication are pillars in any healthy relationship, stretching the truth is an all-too-human impulse. During a HuffPost Live segment exploring why people are compelled to lie, guest Toree Warfield shared how her ex-husband's chronic lies tore apart her marriage.

"He told major lies," she told host Nancy Redd. "Like, 'I sold my company for 3 million dollars.' 'I never got my driver's license, that's why I don't have my driver's license' -- come to find out, he had major DUIs and major tickets. 'My first marriage broke up because my wife had an affair.' But truly what he did was what he was doing to me. He destroyed their lives through his lies and basically, through his cons."

For Warfield, living with a liar and narcissist began to affect her own self image. "For awhile, you think you're crazy. It's probably one of the worst things a person can do to another, is to continually lie to them. Little white lies, that's different. We're talking about serious, almost fantastical lies."

Ultimately, Warfield's relationship ended in divorce. She began a blog to support people caught in similar situations.

"Once you get this person out of your life, it's like the sun comes out and you can see clearly again. Because when you're living with someone who's constantly making the water muddy, you can't see. You're depressed, and you feel like you're crazy. It's very liberating."
