Carl DeMaio, Possible Bob Filner Replacement, Accused Of Masturbating In City Hall Restrooms

Now that San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has agreed to resign, accusations surrounding a possible replacement are swirling.

The Voice of OC reported Thursday that former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio (R) allegedly masturbated in City Hall bathroom facilities during 2009, citing City Council sources that included the president at the time. DeMaio, who is openly gay, lost to Filner by three points in the 2012 mayoral election, which according to a Los Angeles Times report amounted to just about 10,000 votes.

In a Friday Daily Caller report, DeMaio spokesman Jason Roe dismissed the allegations as false.

“There is no other way to respond to this than to call it what it is: a lie,” Roe told the Daily Caller.

KFMB-TV reported Friday that a special election to replace Filner must occur within 90 days. According to the CBS affiliate, DeMaio is expected to announce this week if he will run for this post instead of a Congressional bid against Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.), who serves California's 52nd district.
