Drake VMAs Performance Brings 'Hold On, We're Going Home' To Brooklyn

Drake's VMAs performance saw the rapper bringing "Started From the Bottom" and "Hold On, We're Going Home" all the way up to Brooklyn's Barclays Center, a far cry from the grocery store gig he pretends he has in the former song's music video.

The performance, which took place during MTV's biggest party of the year, was probably an upper for Drake fans, who were disappointed when the Toronto rapper announced he was pushing "Nothing Was the Same," his upcoming and long-awaited album, back a week to Sept. 24. In his defense, he has provided listeners with a steady stream of music, including the defining club hit of the summer, a remix to Migos' "Versace," "The Motion," "5AM in Toronto" and "Girls Love Beyonce."

Drake channeled his newly released album art at the start of his performance, being shot as a profile against a backdrop of clouds. He then ran out into the crowd for most of "Started," returning to the stage as fireworks blasted behind him.

Sunday's awards show was hosted by One Direction and featured performances from a Who's Who of relevant pop acts, including Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Bruno Mars, Daft Punk and more. Not bad for a summer evening in Brooklyn.

We hope Drake didn't hit any "traffic on the way home." That could prove deflating.

Live updates from the night are available below the following gallery.
