Denis Istomin Tweener: Andy Murray Flubs Overhead After Between-The-Legs Shot At U.S. Open (VIDEO)

WATCH: Murray Can't Handle Between-The-Legs Shot

Denis Istomin didn't give up on this point. His effort was rewarded with an unlikely flub from Andy Murray.

Despite facing a 5-1 deficit in the second set of his fourth-round match with Murray, Istomin showed great resolve in chasing down a deep lob. Having tracked the ball beyond the baseline, the unseeded 26-year-old Uzbeck tennis player attempted a between-the-legs shot with his back to the net. Although Istomin did manage to get his "tweener" back over the net, the defending U.S. Open champion was poised to deliver an overhead winner. He didn't.

Murray's frustration with that errant shot were short lived as he would go on to serve out the second set. Despite a few more frustrating moments along the way, Murray would win the match 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

The all-out effort by Istomin and the botched overhead by Murray are reminiscent of a similar exchange between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in a French Open semifinal. In that case, Nadal was the one pulling off the no-look shot and Djokovic was the one failing to put away what seemed an easy overhead shot.
